ABOUT THE MIRROR DINGHY
Sailed all over the world, the International Mirror Class dinghy was
designed by Jack Holt in response to a newspaper competition for a small
versatile sailboat that could be carried on the roof of a Mini-Minor.
It's popularity grew and until the arrival of the Laser, it was the world's most
popular one-design boat. The Mirror remains a popular first sailboat and
40 years on still inspires a great deal of affection from its owners. Many
champion sailors started in this class. It is raced at club, national and world
championship level. It is virtually unsinkable, versatile and rugged. The
average handy-person can easily maintain or rebuild one at little cost.
"The smaller the boat, the more fun you have" definitely applies here.
It can be carried on roof bars or a box trailer. With main, jib and spinnaker
there is plenty to do when racing, and its stability builds confidence in young
crews.
